A FEW KEY POINTERS TO KNOW BEFOREHAND:

  • Avoid tap water or water from any public source in Peru. Always keep packaged water handy
  • Definitely try the Coca Tea that is a must have in Peru and helps one in acclimatizing with the altitude
  • Stock up on Anti-malarial and altitude medicationwhen you’re in Peru
  • There’s rarely a convenience store open after 10pm in Ecuador, so be stocked up before that time in advance.
  • Definitely chew on some Coca leaves as they help one in acclimatizing with the altitude.
  • The chocolates and coffee in Ecuador are a must have!
  • Ecuador literally means equator in Spanish, the sunshine is always at its peak, hence keep the sunscreen handy always
  • In Colombia, you should always watch your belongings especially in crowded places and on public transport. Always have your backpack with you, don't store all valuables in one place and in case of robbery, pass everything over without resistance.
  • English is not widely spoken in Colombia. To be honest, we were surprised that literally, no one speaks English, not even in the tourism industry. Brushing up on your Spanish would be recommended

Colombians love to travel, especially in large groups. It seems that every weekend they decide to take all their family and friends for a trip. Try to avoid long weekends and if you travel on Saturday or Sunday, book in advance.
